'X-Files: I Want To Believe' Movie Plot?

Finally a plot summary has been revealed via the back cover blurb of the novel for the film.

THE X-FILES 2008 MOVIE NOVELIZATION MMPB
by Max Allan Collins
Mulder and Scully are back in the thrilling novelization of the summer 2008 blockbuster movie based on the classic X-Files TV show! When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest's questionable "visions" send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women's disappearance. It's a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere...and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!

But do we believe? Show creator Chris Carter is famous for keeping things in the dark (so to speak) and with the show's catchphrases, "Trust No One" and "Deny Everything" darkly looming, only time will tell.

What is known is this new movie is apparently going to be a self-contained story rather than linked to the complex government conspiracy saga. It occurs six years after the events at the end of the last TV show and will refer to some events and characters in the TV series, including Scully's son William.

Amanda Peet plays FBI agent Dakota Whitney, Scottish comedian Billy Connolly plays a benign priest called Father Joe (seen running across an expanse of snow in sneak preview footage) and Lance Henriksen may reprise his role as former FBI agent Frank Black from the related TV series Millennium. The cast also features rapper, actor and TV host Xzibit, reportedly as an FBI agent who works with Dakota Whitney. Mitch Pileggi returns as FBI boss Walter Skinner.

It's been said that Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick will NOT be returning to reprise their TV roles as agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett respectively.

And it's almost certain that the Cigarette Smoking Man (played by Bill Davis) is not on the cast list as that character was blown to pieces at the end of the final TV episode. That was just after he revealed to Mulder the ultimate truth he'd devoted his life to finding - that aliens were returning to invade earth on the date the ancient Mayan calendar stops, 2012.

The Truth Is Out There!
